Right now as of Monday night, Charles Woodson has yet to rejoin the Oakland Raiders. Tomorrow the team plans to meet with the veteran defensive back with the hope of bringing him back to the Silver and Black, where he first suited up in an NFL uniform.
Many other teams have inquired about his services, but there are too many factors to dismiss the possibility of his return to Oakland.
Maybe he picks Denver, but Charles Woodson is intrigued with idea of finishing his NFL career in same place he started it: Oakland.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) May 20, 2013
Here are just a few of the reasons he may make a return to Oakland a reality. Woodson is conversing with friends and associates about his affection for Oakland and the community. Also, the Raiders, more than any other franchise this off-season, is making a sincere effort to persuade him to come back. Raider Nation loves him and he has stayed a fan favorite all these years. Look for a massive movement of fans to come to the door steps of the facility upon his arrival tomorrow. He’d also be joining a team with a defensive minded coach in Dennis Allen and a general manager, Reggie McKenzie, that worked with him and built trust with him for eight seasons with the Green ay Packers.
At 36, he has to be thinking about is life after the NFL. Okay, he won’t be on a Super Bowl contender this season, but he will be the leader on the field and on a team that could certainly use his best attributes.
Other teams have invited to him to their facility and he left all of them without a contract, including the Broncos and 49ers and most recently, the Lions and Giants have reported interest.
The Raiders have more desire to capture his services than any other team in the league. McKenzie and Allen are ready to make it all happen for the future Hall of Famer, it is completely up to Charles Woodson now.
