Rarely do we see a 27-year-old playmaker in his prime get handed walking papers, but Philly apparently grew very concerned about DeSean Jackson’s pattern of behavior. The news comes on the same day that NJ.com reported that Jackson’s relationship with gang members was one of the issues that bothered the Eagles’ organization.
Eagles have announced the release of DeSean Jackson. Anything but a surprise at this point. Were unable to deal him— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) March 28, 2014
Jackson, 27, comes off the best year of his career with 82 receptions for 1,332 yards (ninth-most among NFL receivers) and nine touchdowns in 2013. The 5-10, 175-pound wide out was just two years into a five-year, $51 million extension and was slated to make $10.25 million in base salary in 2014.
The Seahawks, 49ers, Jets, Raiders among the trams that had prior interest in DeSean Jackson, FWIW. Have a gut Seattle is a major player— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) March 28, 2014
With the Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks now reportedly out of the running for Jackson, we suspect he will either be playing for the Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers or New York Jets in the upcoming 2014 season.
