With the 32nd and final selection of the first round, the defending Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens chose S Matt Elam from Florida.

The retirement of Hall of Famer Ray Lewis and the loss of one of the great safeties in Ed Reed left an enormous hole in the Raven defense. Elam is a proto-typical strong safety with good ball skills and speed to close gaps between receivers. He is also effective when called upon to make big plays while blitzing or playing pass coverage.

Although Elam needs to work on his attentiveness and awareness in a passing happy league, he does have the capabilities and skills to become a solid safety in the NFL.
