The San Francisco 49ers signed the crown jewel of their 2013 draft picks, locking safety Eric Reid out of Louisiana State University into a four year contract.

Reid, the final unsigned draft pick on San Francisco’s slate, will have a significant impact on the 49er secondary and will have a chance to break into the starting lineup or at least receive significant playing time early after safety Dashon Goldson left the Niners this off-season when he signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons.

The terms of the contract received by the number 18 pick in the 2013 draft have not yet been disclosed, but Reid is clearly happy that the negotiations are over.  Reid announced to his Twitter followers “Beyond blesssed!  Officially a 49er!”

Reid is the tenth of all first round draft picks to sign their rookie contracts.  The 49ers had moved up from the 31st pick in a trade with Dallas in order to acquire the pick that landed them Reid.  It has been documented that Jim Harbaugh first attempted to recruit Reid when he was the head coach at Stanford University.  At long last, Harbaugh officially has his man.
