One the fastest men in the NFL, Chris Johnson is on the fast track out of Tennessee and is looking for a new team. Chris Johnson has not had a season in the NFL where he did not reach 1,000 yards rushing. He also seems to have maxed out back in 2009 when he rushed for 2,006 yards of his 2,509 all-purpose yards. Last season were career lows in rushing yards, 1077, and all-purpose yards, 1,422. He did up his touchdown total to 10 overall scores. The Titans had a poor offensive line and rarely gave Johnson a chance to make big plays. Johnson did not make anything happen either.
So which teams are a fit for Johnson? First, we need to look at teams with the cap space to be able to afford CJ2K. The teams that have over $30 Million in room are the Oakland Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. Each of these teams have the money to spend on Johnson, but a few of them have already addressed their running back needs on day one of free agency. The teams left over are Cleveland, Miami and Minnesota. Only Cleveland and Miami have a need at running back, and Miami’s is only dependent on how much Lamar Miller will be trusted for 2014. Cleveland has the better offensive line and would be the smartest fit for Johnson.
Very few teams are “out of the market” for Johnson as speed cannot be coached or taught. If Johnson is willing to restructure his contract, more teams will be interested in taking a chance on a declining speedster.
Prediction: Miami Dolphins.
