Since the end of the regular season the Houston Texans been on the clock and since then, fans, analysts and critics alike been trying to predict who they will take with the first overall pick of the 2014 NFL draft. After reading hundreds, if not a thousands of mock drafts this offseason one can only guess, who the pick for the Texans will be.

Recently I read the Texans are going to go with defense and if they don’t take, defensive-end Jadaveon Clowney. Houston will trade down and stack picks to try and help fill all of their needs, not just one. Because the Texans have a few, especially after trading away Matt Schaub to the Raiders.

Personally I think the Texans should take Clowney with the first pick and target a quarterback in the second round. Either Garoppolo, Mettenberger or even Tom Savage. But, the likelihood of someone from the Texans organization reading this and then taking my advice, well I probably have a better shot getting a date with Jessica Biel (I wish).

If Houston happens to draft Clowney with the first pick and he produces like he did in College, offensive coordinators will be losing a ton of sleep for at least the next couple of years, seeing as how the Texans just recently picked up J.J. Watt’s option for 2015. Good luck, Andrew Luck and any other quarterback that would have to against that tandem.

Let’s say they don’t take Clowney and they do decide to trade down. Trades are so hard to predict, just cause who really knows who is being honest and who is just blowing smoke up our collective behinds just to cause confusion among the other 31 teams. But if they do, I don’t think they trade down too far. I wouldn’t think they trade past the Falcons or Buccaneers, at six and seven. The Falcons have said they want to trade up and the Bucs have been rumored to have interest in trading up. If either of those teams do trade up, I would put a lot on them selecting either Clowney or linebacker Khalil Mack. Both the Bucs and Falcons need help at the defensive-end, linebacker position. Also, both Mack and Clowney been widely regarded as being the best player in this year’s draft, of course Clowney more than Mack.

Assuming the Texans trade with Falcons, the Falcons draft Clowney and the Texans also get either a third or second round pick in the 2015 draft, depending on production from Clowney. Who are the Texans now going to take at six? Doubtful Mack falls that far in the draft.

I’ve heard the Raiders love him at five, if he even gets that far. The Rams have said they want to stay at two, I think they take Greg Robinson the offensive tackle from Auburn, and shore up their line for the next ten years. The Jaguars at three take Mack. The Browns take quarterback Johnny Manziel, who they recently brought into work out. The Raiders take wide-receiver Sammy Watkins, giving newly added quarterback Matt Schaub a true number one.

Now here we are at six, with arguably the two best defensive players off the board, the Texans select quarterback, out of Central Florida, Blake Bortles. Cementing their signal caller for the foreseeable future.

Bortles is in my opinion the best quarterback in this year’s draft and would be a great pick at six for the Texans. Having become a household name to everyone following the draft after the combine and then only raising his draft stock more, on his pro day.

The 2014 NFL draft starts on May 8th and goes through the 10th. Stay tuned for more draft content and let us know what you think.
