The Houston Texans offense struggled. That is probably due to the fact that Ryan Fitzpatrick is quarterback. The Texans' defense put a heavy emphasis on mastering covere schemes. The defensive linemen and linebackers stepped up in coverage. Jadeveon Clowney looked like the highly touted prospect that scouts and NFL Draft experts made him out to be before his pedestrian 2013 season.
If Houston remains this dominant on defense they have a chance to go 7-9. Guys like Brian Cushing, J.J. Watt, Jonathan Joseph, Brooks Reid, Whitney Mercilus, and Kareem Jackson played better with Clowney leading this defense. The only thing holding them back is good play at quarterback.
With wide receiver Andre Johnson finally showing up to training camp today, Johnson has a chance to help this offense perform at a higher level. Can the Texans' defense maintain this confidence throughout training camp? If the Texans' defense continues to bring intensity to the gridiron, it could be a very rewarding season for the Texans.
